The virtual life is such an interesting field of study. That's why I'm inspired to enlist in Psych195 (Special topics: Cyberpsychology). The dichotomies of our lives online and offline is just interesting to look at.
ReplyDeleteIt's also worth looking yung development of our perception of our selves online. How do our image vary on different online set-ups. Do our online self change when we are in facebook and when we are in an academic online forum? :)

The virtual world allows us to show the part of us we are so afraid to show in the 'real' world. We post on social networking sites with expectations of sympathy (likes and comments) from out virtual friends. As what Atton (2004) said, "the virtual world may be seen as constituting a protective container which all wishes are gratified." We make celebrities based on our own selves. Online we can have our own Hollywood create our own showbiz news through our status and posts.

ReplyDeleteThe think the net fills the gaps in our lives. The rewards and attention we get online satisfy what we are deprived of in the real world. We just need to be careful not to confuse reality with virtual reality.
hehehe! sorry guys.. i asked permission naman eh!:)) and I thought you guys will understand better so i used your profile pictures naman!:) I think that this topic is really interesting...especially the effect of the net with our personality, behavior and perception of oneself and other people. This subject made me more aware of the effects of trend in my life and how i take it and use it in my life. For example: FACEBOOK.
